THE PARK LABREA ARTS COUNCIL

Classical Theater Lab  -  520 Burnside Avenue, Tower 43, Basement.CTL is a prestigious company of actors and directors, long on talent and peppered with familiar actors names and faces, dedicated to the exploration and performances of classical plays.  Under the direction of Elizabeth Huffman, the Classical Theater Lab puts on  productions with renowned Shakespearean actors.  They perform their works throughout Los Angeles.  Each year, they try to put on an event for our residents.  For information call (818) 784-8828.

 

The Mid-City Regional Arts Council meets at Park Labrea under the auspices of the Park Labrea Arts Council.  This arts council has been created by the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department to guide the arts in the mid-city region.  Its distinguished members are representatives throughout our community.  The Council has sponsored the Millennium Mask Project in the City of Los Angeles;   co-sponsored the Global Village Outdoor Banner Artography Art Show at Park Labrea; and sponsored the Vernon Finney Mural dedicated to Tim Fields at the Little Red School House in Hollywood.

 

The Los Angeles City Department of Aging, Council on Aging, Arts, Education & Entertainment Committee. This committee meets at Park Labrea in association with the Park Labrea Arts Council to guide the arts, education and entertainment for  Los Angeles seniors.  For information call (213) 368-4000.

  

Senior Splash takes place at the Park Labrea pool twice a week, sponsored by Fairfax Adult Education (323)623-4085.

Senior Senator.The Senior Senate Office of newly elected Senator J. Pasqual Bettio, State of California.  This Honorable post will be in association with the Park Labrea Arts Council and Sharing Friends of the Arts, Hollywood International.  Its mission will be to unite the Hollywood Industry with the senior population of our region.  The office will seek the support of the industry to recognize and promote senior Hollywood talent for the purpose of spreading the spirit of performance and education

Los Angeles County Museum of Art Tours Are coordinated on a monthly basis by Sandy Moss through the Park Labrea Art Center.  Students and residents of Park Labrea are  welcome.  For a current schedule, call (323) 549-5498.

Mini-Gallery Open House, Throughout the year.

A variety of artists are featured in different galleries throughout the park.  The galleries are located in different tower lobby offices. Guests have the opportunity to meet the artists and purchase the art work.

 

Art In The Park  / April/May

Sponsored by Park Labrea Management, this is fundraiser for Camp Ronald McDonald children.  This event brings in hundreds of people from our communities.  It is Park Labrea’s way of giving back to the arts.Now a tradition at Park Labrea, this one-day festival and six-months outdoor exhibition, features artists citywide.  In addition to the artist’s booths, our special “Outdoor Fine Art Banner Competition” and our “L.A.’s Tallest Tower Art Exhibition” are featured. This art in the park is displayed for six  months. The competition is open to all artists.

Senior Day Expo  / May This award-winning event created in 1995 by the Arts Council, was awarded by the Mayor of Los Angeles who acclaimed May 11th Senior Achievement Day. A special event for our seniors, featuring music, dance, art, entertainment and refreshments.  It is in association with the Los Angeles Department of Aging, often taking up the entire weekend in one of the City’s local parks.  Featured at this event is the annual Senior Talent Search. 

 

 

Picnic in the Park /  August
An event for the whole family, featuring music, dance, art and activities for children.

Kid’s Club Day  July / August
A special day for the kids featuring entertainment, rides, music, face-painting, art and refreshments. Kids talent search.  Fun for the whole family.

Halloween Party / October
Fun for the kids and adults, too.  A costume celebration of the holiday with entertainment, treats, costume contest, special coloring book contest, and refreshments.  We have a haunted house created by the artists at Park Labrea.

Holiday Decorating Contest / December
A special contest for the residents of Park Labrea.  Their decorated windows, in the tower and garden apartments,  are judged  and special recognition is given to the winners.

Caroling in the Park  / December
A long-standing tradition at Park Labrea featuring a choir singing holiday songs, and a special holiday show, music, Santa for the kids, and refreshments.

Park Labrea Management financially supports all the arts and events at Park Labrea.  Through their continued support, our residents have the opportunity to enjoy, appreciate and live in a very special community enhanced by the arts.  The gardens, architecture and surroundings create a unique environment in which creativity flourishes.
